christschool: Southern Tomato pie served with Seafood? Never heard of that. Though it does sound good, it's not traditionally Southern to add seafood as a side. You say this is a family recipe from the South, but you don't sound Southern and your in the Northwest, where one would expect seafood to be side dish. There is nothing Southern about this recipe, other than tomatoes, mayo, pepper, basil and a pastry pie crust. After you prepare your tomatoes, they look more like marinara than what is in a traditional tomato pie, which is a slice of tomato. If you are using heirloom tomatoes, there is no need to remove the skin. Unlike store bought tomatoes, heirloom tomato skins are very thin and will breakup under heat. The tough skins you get from store bought tomatoes are bred into that tomato for transport and storage.
This looks like a very good pie adapted for your region, but its lost its Southern origin. As I watch this video, it becomes less and less Southern.
