And I am a vegetarian and you are saying that I am out of luck because I can't eat the amount of nuts and peanut butter that I want. TiwyXx: almonds contains lots of good fats, salmon too, and a lot of protein and few sugar... so you must pay more attention to the "quality", the nutrients of your food if you want to be healthy and "eat well", before focusing only on the calories... Of course you can eat 3 big macs menu a day without going past your "calorie target" but it will always be worst that vegetables, fruits, good beef or fish :)

Brian: Sugar, sodium(unless you're like me without a colon and need more than avg person) and carbs are more important than calories ever will be. Too much sugar and carbs is what leads to diabetes. Fruits are great, but eating a lot is just like eating that chocolate cake. We don't eat enough protein as people. I think that's due to the fact we originally mainly meat eaters so our bodies are used to animal fat and meats. We process them fairly well too in comparison to the byproducts we squeeze out of plants and wonder why we have higher risks of diseases. Overall, it's moderation. Splurging one a day a week and dieting the rest doesn't help. You can eat your white rice, but don't make it half the plate. Like that fruit salad? Get a bowl, but don't fill it to the top and get seconds expecting to be okay because "it's healthy".
