What's Histrionic Personality Disorder? Mental Health treatment, help & therapy with Kati Morton

this video about Histrionic Personality Disorder is not meant as a tool for you to diagnose yourself but rather as a way to better understand what HPD is. Histrionic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people act in a very emotional and dramatic way that draws attention to themselves. Cause of histrionic personality disorder is unknown. Genes and early childhood events may be responsible. It is diagnosed more often in women than in men. Doctors believe that more men may have the disorder than are diagnosed. Histrionic personality disorder usually begins by late teens or early 20s. Symptoms include: Acting or looking overly seductive Being easily influenced by other people Being overly concerned with their looks Being overly dramatic and emotional Being overly sensitive to criticism or disapproval Believing that relationships are more intimate than they actually are Blaming failure or disappointment on others Constantly seeking reassurance or approval Having a low tolerance for frustration or delayed gratification Needing to be the center of attention (self-centeredness) Quickly changing emotions, which may seem shallow to others DOWNLOAD MY FREE WORKBOOKS HERE... Dead Shot: Just say hpd

Heidi Latham: Yes, I'm in therapy

Charl Heynike: you are the cutest!

Beth the Dark Mage: I've seen a lot of people online with this condition. It's sad because it becomes immediately obvious they've been starved of socialisation and they're desperately reaching out in any way they can. However annoying it may be when they constantly post and try to get others to be friends with them, I can't help but feel pity.

Yes, they're often entitled. Yes, they're often selfish. And yes, they will typically assume that because a person had one positive interaction with them that they are friends. But I think deep down most of them are good people and just take things too far.

Gold Magpie: Donald Trump?

The Wacko Green Alien 1212: Yes

Ash of Eden: i expected her to say "handy dandy...notebook" #bluesclues

Leopard-King: No offense but this seems like a hold over from Puritanism. It's a dead at the waste Western admonishment. Being overly ornate and animated is only an aberrant feature in a culture that is stuck in the head. We suffer from a leprosy of professionalism. Our naught bits are the first to ossify and fall off. This minimal humanism is celebrated in working spaces where the goal is to become gears and cogs. The stable self is a hopeless construct that psychology clings to like a phantom Elvis. I say defy the order of the living dead embracing ostentatious, sexual, and theatrical whims. This is cubical counselling.

I'm a person: Just existing seems like a disorder....

Wade Guidry: So you are basically describing a drunk.

Matthew Bishop: Sounds like a shallow attention grabbing description of a very complex disorder to get likes and subscribers on YouTube. We all have a mental illness if you look hard enough. For what is mental Illness but a healthy aspect of the mind taken to unhealthy levels.

Darín Meraz: The yes/no buttons didn't work on my mobile.

SeMaJ IB: I see this most amongst females.
Drama seems to describe it.
Peace and calm drive them crazy

Lee M.: Six of the 11

Sare Bear: Dressing provocatively, or wearing bright colours to draw attention to oneself. Yar, ya know I'm constantly judged by the clothes I wear, cos I enjoy fashion. Not cos I'm seeking attention. I am the last person that wants people looking at me 24/7. This is some narrow-minded bullshit. A person can't wear what they want, or they get labelled with a mental illness. Do you know what it's like to be in a society where people will judge a person by what they wear and say things like, "She's asking for it." Asking for what? RAPE? This is the type of collective mental illness that needs to change. Not someone who likes to wear clothes that in fashion.

Jan Taljaard: Maybe they could become good actors.

Sophie Konishi: Lol I was afraid this was me then I was like nope nope nope etc. actually at a party I’d rather not be noticed at all ha ha. And have a fear of being the center of attention.

Zebra Courage: I recently ended a friendship (and have been contact-free for 6 weeks or so) with a woman who fits these criteria quite well. she also has a TBI and was previously dx'd with BPD. we're both in our 30s, yet her father cautioned me about her when I first met him.
she'd say life wasn't worthwhile without me, took on all ny interests and ideas until I started to feel like I was lacking a true sense autonomy. she made a big effort to become close to my parents and long-time friends, sometimes for reassurance and attwntion, sometimes to exploit their generosity. she is now seeing my parents' married, older neighbor/former friend several times a week.
I have CPTSD and go to therapy 2x a week, but I'm having trouble getting the help from my therapist that I need to recover from 8 months of controlling, obsessive and dramatic behavior. I've tried to explain to my therapist how this has affected me, but I'm still really struggling. she lives directly above me, so I will eventually run into her. I can't take the constant anxiety..... I'd appreciate any input/advice you can offer

Michael Wizouski: Soooo like an attention hor 🤔

Joshua Juodawlkis: As long as it’s all in good fun and not really so obnoxious as much as charming - are these traits really so bad? What makes it a disorder?
