autoparts321: I like the Q&A you are doing, that is cool. Also you seemed to attract questions regarding diet topics that are trending alot lately it seems, like ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. The yoga move for the intestinal valve was ok, I heard there is a simple test and also symptoms of when the valve is not closing. I also heard constant eating interferes with the valve closing. I believe it can be massaged by hand also, not just the yoga breathing crunching movement.
Chris K: Should've fasted for long periods and ate 1 or 2 meals only in short time while keeping carbs very low during meal/meals. That's the key to making it work really well.

The Raw Vegan Experiment: So much coconut oil every day, it is not normal and doesnt exist in nature. Just keep it a little moderate, why does it have to be so extreme? Being raw is limited as it is.....
VeggieKate: Hi Matt, thanks for all your effort in doing the keto diet. It was a really nice experiment and I do feel that your ketone level could increase by adjusting your macros. I know you are now done with doing keto, but just wanted to say how it could be successful. It could be several factors, perhaps too much nuts or protein or too much carbs. The protein and carbs could be interfering. Also if you were eating coconut flesh, that could throw you out of keto, from the carbs in coconut. Also you said 4 TBsp coconut oil per day. That's really not a lot. I could eat 1 stick of butter per day...how many TBsp is that? I think it's like 8. So 8 TBsp of coconut oil may be a better amount. You probably just weren't consuming enough fat. But anyways, I'm glad you are going back to a diet you feel more happy on. That's what's most important. Just eating to what feels best for your body.

Tim Aikey: Ketone levels are really effected by low carb intake, if you are truly under 20 g total carbs a day you should be registering 1.0 at least. If you don't eat fat, then you will burn the fat you have, it doesn't effect ketone levels from what I have seen.

Ceejer: Dude, where is your alcohol swipe before pricking your finger? What could have possibly altered your reading is the contamination on your finger - not to mention the tip of the needle needs wiping before and after if re-using. Touching the mouse, your camera, etc. and then pricking atop that? Not as scientific as this can alter the reading drastically. Give yourself a break! You're going keto great, and eating cleaner. As one who's been testing w/ a glucometer for over a year, I find an unclean finger gives false readings. My .02 xo

Gene Eo: Hi Matt, your result is not abnormal. Some people respond to Ketogenic diet slowly. You said you got 1.1 ketones before but now after eating lots of coconut oil and you got 0.6? Similar things happened to me as well. It was only after I came across the information from Dr. Nally that I understood when your ketones are shooting up higher, faster than usual, sometimes body can supress the ketone level to some degree. (In other words, lots of coconut oil before this test shot up your ketone levels and in turn, your body reduced the level.) The base-line ketone production tends to move up slowly for some people. In my case, it took me a couple of months of super strict Ketogenic diet to reach mild ketosis (around 0.6). So you are doing much better than me when I was in the initial period of Ketogenic diet (until 2 months-ish mark). Once you really get to adapted to Ketogenic diet (getting into Ketosis and getting adapted to the diet are two DIFFERENT THINGS), you WILL VERY LIKELY EXPERIENCE very surprising health/mental benefits. I am about 5 months mark and in my case, it took me a couple of months for the true adaptation to occur but the effort is totally worth it. In many cases, the true adaptation really takes time to occur.
