What causes addiction? Easy, right? Drugs cause addiction. But maybe it is not that simple. Pennilee1: This video is enlightening in some aspects, but if we only consider what's said in this video, then the latest opioid epidemic sweeping the US right now shouldn't be happening. Most of the new people getting addicted to opiates such as OxyContin are young, middle-class suburban whites with stable, relatively loving families. Then they are moving on to street heroin. They had familial connections, strong, safe communities- what's up with that, then?
I read Hari's book too, and I was rather disturbed that Hari, although he raised good points and I believe had the right direction in regards to our view on drugs, didn't really mention the opioid epidemic in the US right now. Wish this video mentioned the opioid epidemic too, because that seems to serve as a real-life counter to many of your claims.

Tyler Schuågh: So the main point of this video is if we make a human rat park we can make endless love? Sounds good to me
••• MarbleBobaSoda •••: So I'm going to be obsessed with bts because of my depression ???
Oh gosh I need a boyfriend.
AmazingNeZz AliE: Yup... and vacationing for a year where people will treat you better... PHILIPPINES, LAOS, BELIZE, PALAU, MALDIVES
Jani Pontus Toivanen: One thing I believe was missed in the rat park experiment was size of natural territory. It should probably have been much much bigger. Maybe it was a forest with some buildings and all kinds of activity and amusement. I don't know the specifics of the experiment.
Anyways, I used a lot of different drugs in my 20's. Started with a lot of nicotine, caffeine and alcohol in my teens. Well, actually started with a lot of loneliness and pain in my childhood. Around 30 I moved out to the country side and started building my own human park. I got my own little ranch, with one ha of land, mostly forest. I work for money less than 20 h/week. I do what I want pretty much when I want - fish, geocache, search for metal, shoot my bow, work in my garden. tend to my animals, pick berries and mushrooms, or just chill on the couch vibeing the net.
At least one thing is missing in a financial sense. I believe my natural territory as a human is the earth and little by little beyond. At the moment my finances allows for a bit of travel. Mostly domestic. If I could travel more, further and longer I believe my human park life style would be a giant leap better.
Graham Hall: Actually this does make a lot of sense considering the rise in drug use along side the increasing social isolation we have in society today, just think if you even really know your neighbour's, or your co-workers, we make shallow friendships of convenience but not real deep friendships any more.

Chef Derek Butt: Drugs like heroin and opium are biologically addictive. Do not trust your doctor. They are drug dealers.

Mok Ying: I have an addiction ,
a gaming addiction. harmless.
organicstorm: alright, after reading some of the other comments I feel more confident about what to take with me from this video. it is a very trivial observation, really: just like with alcohol, other drugs don't just "make" one an addict. there are other factors, deeply routed in the mental state of the individual in question that contribute to the addiction. the reason for taking the drug - no matter which drug we're talking about, is important. however, the resulting physical effects of all kinds of overuse are very real, too. to overcome addiction, one needs more than medical treatment of withdrawal symptoms. but this is not new. my father went to rehab more than 20 years ago and psycho-therapy, one-on-one as well as group sessions, has been integral part of addiction treatment for decades. nobody who ever contemplated addiction actually thinks it is just about the biochemical effects of certain substances.. 😐
