And let's be real, whether of not he's a #[00:29]. And so many of you loved the quiz so I'm definitely going to be doing more of those for you. In the comments so many of you said how helpful it would be to have some tips on how to increase the odds of your summer romance turning into a long-term committed relationship. You guys are in luck because that's the video I was going to do anyway. So today, you guys, I'm using my experience as a relationship therapist with a doctorate degree in psychology to teach you 6 strategies to turn your summer crush into something real. We better dive right in because this field is actually so chocked full of practical easy tips that you guys can use today with your summer crush. If you guys #[1:03] ask Kimberley, don't forget to hit the big subscribe button down below and come and follow me over on Snapchat and Instagram so you guys can constantly stay inspired and at the top of your relationship game. And you guys are all sending me the cutest stuff, I love it so much, keep them coming. Okay guys, let's get right into it. Tip No. 1 is establishing regular communication. One of the biggest things that distinguishes a fling from a serious relationship is the regularity of your communication. A fling is spontaneous and relies on spur-of-the-moment advances and quick decisions. That's why when it's a fling, most of the time you find yourself just ending up in romantic situations, like walking on the beach at night or snuggling by the camp fire. But these things aren't planned and they almost always just happen. So if you like this person, and you want this to extend past just 1 random experience, you always have to start communicating with them regularly right away. One real easy way to do this is to just tell them when you plan to contact them. Now if you do have an amazing night sitting by the camp fire, say something simple like, “I'll text you tomorrow.” Makes things super clear so that nobody is guessing. Tip No. 2 is to make sure you have lots of meaningful conversations. Sounds easy right? But not always with a fling because you don't always know the fling that well. If you actually like your crush, you cannot build a foundation of your relationship on physical attraction alone. It is actually impossible. If it's going to survive eventually, it has to extend to meaningful emotional connection. And that can only be achieved by sharing stories, memories, feelings and life experiences. So a really good way to start an emotional connection is to ask your crush about their friends and family. This shows that you care, but it also leads to more sharing and more communication. Tip No. 3 is to ask him out on a date. Some of you might be thinking, “Kimberley! I'm not that bold. I'm not gonna like ask him out. What are you thinking?” And I say, “No, it's not too bold. This is insurance to ensure that you get what you want and need out of this relationship, and you're not left heartbroken at the end of the summer. What's so wrong with that? It does not have to be a serious activity. Like, in my opinion, going for an ice cream cone is like a perfect summer date activity, but it has to be planned at least 24 hours in advance, and that's what makes it a real date. Say something like, “Hey, I plan to go for ice cream tomorrow night. Do you wanna come?” Is a fun and cute way to set up a proper date when you guys both know what the intentions are. And it shows that you're not afraid to take a chance. Tip No. 4 is to get familiar with each other's daily lives. When we're in summer crush land #[3:38] cottage or at summer camp or on vacation, we're not thinking about what life looks like back at home and what it would look like if our crush was actually in it.
