Today I talk about DBT or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. There are 4 modules in DBT and the first one I already have a video on!! That is Mindfulness! So check that video out! The second module is Distress Tolerance. This entails distracting and they use the acronym ACCEPTS. The next module is Emotion Regulation, and this can help us be in more control of our emotions using many CBT like tools. This will have us work on things like recognizing what thoughts are hardest for us to manage and how we react to the things that happen around us. It will try and help us notice our reactions and the thoughts that create them so we can be better prepared to tolerate the feelings next time. Last but not least is Interpersonal Effectiveness. This will help us better communicate our emotions to those who are important to us. We will learn tools to express how we are feeling instead of always reacting and lashing out. So grab a workbook and join a DBT group, and let's get started!!! VIDEO SCHEDULE... Louis Dem: The bit about interpersonal effectiveness is actively unhelpful. When I do that, people tend to say "don't try to shrink talk your way out of this" whereas yelling gets me some level of respecting for being honest and standing up for myself. Contrary to popular belief, people actually hate it when you use the "starting your sentences with I" strategy.
MegaLuckydog1: Please keep on topic. You then can talk at a more accomodating cadence. Like trying to talk to a receptionist on a monday morning (6 cups o'coffee).
Marcia Ray: I am sick of group and cant ever conce trate. I have adult add, ocd, eating disorder, bpd, etc. I have also been diagnosed with bipolar type2 by Mayo clinic. Iwish i could do skype or 1 on 1 at home. On top of that i now severe arthritis and cant walk. Not all therapists are qualified! i am 65 and seeing them since i was 16. I feel hopeless. I have also been inpt. Several times including the great Mayo clinic mood disorder unit( what a rip). So i am ready to give up!
J. F. M: like a toddler "talk more about everything" :)
Nintendo Fairy Tail: Basically what happened in my last appointment ! My psychologist got burnt out , and she explained me a therapy how it worked ! Really good I found Kati's video about DBT ! Really helpful to understand where I stand and the intentions of my therapist !
Jerri Gallagher Clegg: I need if I can examples of what 2 looks like. I keep quitting therapy all the time; I suspect I completely misunderstand the therapist all time, but irregardless I feel hurt by therapist ‘s actions so often (BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE I’M JUST SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WANT fm ME; THERE’s NEVER ANY EXPLANATION w IT) that I just give up. I know I need therapy terribly badly, but I feel therapist’s tell you I’m going to do DBT techniques. Then next thing you know, in actuality, they’re doing things that you say hurt your feelings, and, (it feels like) the therapist is dismissing whatever your complaint about what your awareness is.
I don’t get it. I cannot learn this way. I had a really, really, traumatic childhood, and all I want is to be slowly healed. If I have someone mess w my head, I cannot survive. :(
Wizdomtrek: Oh YouTube is WOOOOOOONDERFUL! K so I basically have the equivalent of a university education/technical training education at my disposal, NOOOOOOW, now I have my "own" psychotherapist too boot .....I feel SOOOOO SPECIAL :D
Miss Lotus: Udub!!!
TifferNut Mom: DBT is my life jacket! Literally. Saved me from drowning in a sea of overwhelm, depression, embarrassment N everything else while going thru a messy, hurtful separation & child custody war. My therapist recommend to take the 4 modules twice to better grasp N understand it. 2nd time I fully absorb DBTs benefits. Teflon Mind was a huge help to begin. (mind was to clogged for mindfulness) Radical acceptances was a huge part of my healing, by right, Radical Acceptance could have its own module! Was hesitant about going to group -'w/people'.... But, the group part turned out to be great because you learn from others questions as well. DBT helped me cope then later to survive. It is a lot of work but worth it! I felt sad(2nd x around) when someone would just drop group.
keith stone: Katie Morton I'm guessing you are borderline? Or maybe you're just crazy because you're hot
GAMER IMRAN PRO: What is ACT mean?
Brittany Karpiak: Hey Kati, I couldn’t find your DBT workbook on your website? Could you possibly send one to me?
raiders86 54: you are the GOAT
PJ Monster: "First words of all those letters"
Stacy M: This concept called DBT and the women brainstorming, designing and implementing this is a massive advancement in 21st century healthcare! and yet nobody I know has heard of DBT! It’s a result oriented, measurable/definable approach to ALL mental/physical issues, yet there’s no platform or advocacy explaining it. LONG wait lists from only “word of mouth” advertisement -so thank you for this! Please do more on DBT!
Hal Watkins: How does one recover and rebuild from the radical devaluation from a person you love with BPD? I love her, we have a child and wish to be helpful...lost as to what to do
Fionn MacRedmond: U look so much like Betty from the tv show Riverdale
Laura Lamb: DBT saved my life hands down.
MJoanna: just absolutely terrible, please stop posting
Becca: @katie morton i looked on the website and can't find the DBT workbook. Did the link change?
