JULY: Things do when having shinsplints:
1. Massage your legs - like after workout
2. Always stretch before and after working out!! stretching is so important
3. icing your shins will also be effective
4. always stop activity when feeling pain. When your body is in pain, it means that your body is telling you to stop.
5. when the pain is over, start exercising lightly and take small steps to harder workouts, you also have to strengthen your shins/ankles by doing some strengthen exercise, this will also prevent shin splints
6.Stretch and strengthen!
7. sometimes it might be your shoes that is the problem, so seek help to find the perfect pair of shoes for your foot - or maybe the ground can ve the problem too, like too solid. So start running on grass or sand
8. wear compression stocking for running or just exercising outside

Arya Vart: I lost 60 pounds in 2014 by running 10 miles every day , but I gained it all back when I was preparing for university entrance exams, and now I am trying to lose it again. but the problem is that I developed shin splints when I started running again for a month so went to the doctor who performed blood tests and told me that I have vitamin D deficiency. so I sat under the sun 1 month 1 hour every day and took the medicines that he gave me and started cycling for a week but still the shin splints still developed . They got so bad that i couldn’t sleep due to pain . I want to lose weight and I have the motivation to do it again, but my feet doesn’t obey me and I am depressed can somebody please help me.

There's shooting pains up the outside of my leg and the muscle gets harder and harder when used. I'm going to try to use these tips.

Joe Luckmann: For shin splints it is important to stop running. If you do not there is a risk out stress fractures which could leave you injured for several months. So cease running for about 4-5 weeks. I know this sounds long but stick with it, even if it feels fine just keep resting. You can do other cardiovascular exercise such as cycling and swimming to keep up fitness. Also, strenghting calves and hips does put less stress on the shin and therefore can reduce the likelihood that you get them in the future. I would also recommend kinesiotape and this takes the stress of the shin, in the most dire of circumstances you can consider acupuncture, but you need to consult a physio. After the resting period you should SLOWLY return to training. It is important to gradually increase your training time and intensity and overuse can be a cause of shin splints. Benjamin Frizzell: So sick of this bullshit advice these fitness people produce. Shin splints is a generic term that refers to pain on the medial side of the shin. It's not a diagnosis. Maybe it's a tibialis posterior tendinopathy, maybe the soleus is getting over worked. This guy would have no bloody idea what it is. How about instead of trying to find a quick fix that is essentially just symptom relief, why not go and see a professional who can actually assess and diagnose your problem? I'm sure their advice will extend further than an advertisement for some shitty compression stockings that "are the best cure for shin splints...or anything for that matter". What a bloody moron?
