Today I'm talking about "Radical acceptance" which is a Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skill. One of the four options you have for any problem is Radical Acceptance (Linehan, 1993). Radical Acceptance is a tool used in the moment to help us overcome our overwhelming emotions. This can stop the cycle of suffering that we often find ourselves in because we go over and over a situation wishing that the outcome would have been different. By doing this we are re-injuring ourselves, and are unable to move past things that have happened in our lives. Radical Acceptance helps us stop wishing there had been a different outcome. It helps us recognize that what happens is a result of a million other things, and most importantly, it helps us develop healthier and happier relationships. So give it a try!! See how it can help you and please share any mantra you use to help you in the moment!
